About this site

I've decided to make this site my place for commentary on topical issues. I'm going to try to keep it anonymous. The reason I want to remain anonymous is because I want to keep the essays I post as neutral as I can. I don't want people to view them in terms of political parties or other influences. I'm not a celebrity nor a politician and I don't have a philosophy to push, except for this: Soundbites have been substituted for reason. News organizations don't even bother to do real journalism anymore (mostly). There is a lot of dishonest commentary and people are often downright rude towards opinions that don't agree with their own. We have to do better.

I called this blog "Honesty is a Choice," because it is. We aren't born particularly honest or moral, but by the time we're adults, we know exactly what those terms mean. People often take shortcuts and society frequently seems to encourage that. I'm disgusted when I hear a company's CEO say something like, "our first obligation is to our shareholders." No, it is not. Your first obligation is to your customers and to your employees. You do right be them and your company will prosper. Theres an old European proverb that goes something like, "If everyone would sweep his own porch, we would have a clean city." How much simpler does it get? If you conduct your own life with honesty and integrity, you make the world a little better place to live. If everyone did, the world would be a much better place than it is now. I have found that there are many choices we make each day, and if we practice choosing wisely, it becomes easier each time. Eventually it becomes a habit.
